Knicks/Mavericks/Nuggets Trade

In this trade, the Knicks received Emmanuel Mudiay, the Mavericks received Doug McDermott, and the Nuggets received Devin Harris.

This was an interesting trade for the Knicks. The Knicks just drafted a point guard in Frank Ntilikina so trading for a young guard like Mudiay is confusing. Mudiay has said from the jump that he is happy to be with the Knicks which is good. Maybe him playing inspired basketball will help him get his flow back. I don’t like this trade because this will stunt Ntilikina ‘s growth. If Mudiay does well the rest of this season and next, the Knicks will have to pay him. Then, what happens to Ntilikina? I don’t think these two players can play with each other since both really can’t shoot well. It will be interesting to see.

This was a great move for the Mavericks. Getting a shooter like McDermott will help create space for Dennis Smith Jr. McDermott could play the three and four position which will make the Mavericks more versatile. If he does well, the Mavericks can pay him this offseason.

The Nuggets needed to get rid of some money and they did that by letting go of Mudiay. Harris is a free agent after this season which will help the Nuggets resign Nikola Jokic to the max.

Winner: This was a really tough decision, but I believe the Mavericks won this trade. Getting a quality wing who can shoot like McDermott for nothing is a steal. He will help create space for Smith Jr. If it doesn’t work out, he will be a free agent this offseason.
