Cavs/Jazz Trade

So Kyle Korver is finally out! The Cleveland Cavaliers traded sharp shooter Kyle Korver to the Utah Jazz for Alec Burks, 2020 second round pick, and 2021 second round pick (via Washington).

UTAH SIDE OF THE TRADE

Lets be real, when Gordon Hayward left the Jazz, EVERYONE including the Jazz organization thought they were going to rebuild. NO ONE expected the rookie Donovan Mitchell to blow up like he did. Not only did the Jazz make the playoffs, but they also beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round. I am bringing this up because their plan to rebuild is out the door. Now they know they can compete because they have a star in Mitchell. There is no secret that the Jazz are struggling this season, they have only won four of the last ten games. Teams are locked in on Mitchell and now know how to slow him down. They needed someone to help Mitchell spread the floor, Joe Ingles is not enough.

In comes Korver, Korver will most definitely help them spread out the floor. Mitchell playing with two DEADLY catch and shoot players along with Rudy Gobert will lead to more assists for Mitchell. Expect to see his assists average go way up! This also helps the Jazz for the following season. Thabo Sefolosha’s contract is up after this season. Now they don’t have to worry about resigning him because they already found his replacement in Korver. Utah is not a free agency destination so whenever you can get a solid player under contract for an extra year is great.

WHAT SCARES ME is that the Jazz gave up two second round picks. Supposedly in either 2020 or 2021, the NBA will allow high school players declare for the NBA draft. That means that draft class would be STACKED. You can easily  get first round talent in the second round.

CLEVELAND SIDE OF THE TRADE

This trade was easy for the Cavaliers, they wanted to get Korver on a playoff contending team. They did that and got a semi-decent player in Alec Burks who’s contract is up after this season. Not only will this help with their cap (they still owe a lot of money next year, but hey shedding a little bit of money still helps), but this will also help with their future. Like I said in the previous section, they got two second round picks. One of the drafts will have high school athletes and one and done players. That class is going to be stacked with talent. Cleveland is not a Free Agent destination so adding first round talent under a team friendly contract is great.

WHO WON THE TRADE

I think both team got what they wanted. But if I had to choose, I would say the Cleveland Cavaliers won the trade. They are saving money and got draft picks. If the high school athletes and one and done players declare for the draft in 2020 and 2021, then the Cavaliers won the trade AND ITS NOT EVEN CLOSE. The Jazz are not going to win a championship this year or next. There too many teams that are better then them.

Who do you think won the trade? Comment below!! Thank you for reading and come back next time so we can run it back.
